Pride and Prejudice is the story of Mr and Mrs Bennet (minor gentry), their five daughters, and the various romantic adventures at their Hertfordshire residence of Longbourn. The parents’ characters are greatly contrasted: Mr Bennet being a wise and witty gentleman; while Mrs Bennet is permanently distracted by the issue of marrying off her daughters at any cost. The reason for Mrs Bennet’s obsession is that their estate will pass by law after Mr Bennet’s death to his closest blood relative: his cousin, the Reverend William Collins (a fatuous, tactless and pompous man). Austen’s tale is spurred on by the arrival of the young and wealthy bachelor Charles Bingley and his friend Fitzwilliam Darcy. It is the story of the various affections, affectations and engagement shenanigans that develop due to Mrs Bennet’s relentless matchmaking and the dashing Darcy’s tempestuous relationship with Elizabeth Bennet who Jane Austen claimed was favourite amongst her literary offspring. Its 1797 earlier version was turned down for publication and it appeared in this form in 1813.

Mein Kampf (English: My Struggle/My Battle) is a book by the Austrian-born leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler. It combines elements of autobiography with an exposition of Hitler’s National Socialist political ideology. Volume 1 of Mein Kampf was published in 1925 and volume 2 in 1926.[1]

Mein Kamph is an important book because it reveals a great deal about Hitler’s mind, outlook and the ideas that became the basis of National Socialism. What he wrote as his philosophy in 1924 he began to implement as policy when he became supreme ruler of Germany after 1934.

The film also features Pakistan’s top model Iman Ali, who plays Maryam, a woman trapped between modernism and conservatism. Naseeruddin Shah essays a powerful cameo of an Islamic scholar who embodies the voice of reason.

Here’s a quick read on the leadership principles of the former GE CEO Jack Welch, who’s often considered one of the 20th century’s greatest business leaders. Though his reputation has been somewhat tarnished by his opulent retirement package as well as a messy divorce, his “GE Way” of management is still highly regarded. Slater, a long-time Welch watcher, offers an abridged version of his 2001 Welch tome, Get Better or Get Beaten. This version is perfect for airport reading, though it delivers little of the struggles and setbacks that must have helped form the backbone of Welch’s wisdom.

Instead we get the platitudes, presented in 29 highly formatted and easy-to-grab chapters. All the instruction is self-evident, told in tiny anecdotes, and followed by a set of “Welch Rules” (“Get the most out of your employees”; “Promote the three ‘S’s’: speed, simplicity, and self-confidence”). There’s food for thought here, but not very much of it. This volume’s selling point-its brevity-is also its downfall: it feels too much like leadership lite.

French’s First Lady, Carla Bruni’s Portrait for Auction

And the photographer who captured this image the new Mrs Nicolas Sarkozy - former model Carla Bruni - claims he has photos that are even more explicit.

Christie’s plans to auction a nude portrait of Carla Bruni in New York next month. The picture of France’s first lady was taken more than a decade ago when she was working as a model. The gelatin silver print, made by photographer Michel Comte, shows her standing in a pose that apparently refers to the paintings of Georges Seurat, a French neo-impressionist. Defending its decision to sell the print, the auction house described the third Mrs. Nicolas Sarkozy as “one of the most beautiful women in the world. It’s a work of art. It was shot in 1993 when Miss Bruni was a model, and it’s a tasteful nude portrait executed by a well-known, respectable artist,” a spokeswoman said.
